About

The Production House

Red Letter Day Pictures produces original African narrative content for film and television, with a track record of both commercial success and international recognition.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Red Letter Day Pictures believes in the transformative power of African stories — culturally specific, emotionally universal, and built to travel. Led by creative producers René and Corné van Rooyen, the company develops and produces work across the full spectrum of narrative filmmaking, from intimate art-house cinema to commercially successful features and long-running television drama.

The company has delivered both critical recognition and box-office success. Hollywood in my Huis (2015), Vaselinetjie (2017), and Hans Steek die Rubicon Oor (2023) became major local hits, while Toorbos (2021) was selected as South Africa's official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards, placing the company firmly on the international stage.

In television, Alles Malan achieved record-breaking viewership for M-Net / MultiChoice, while Summertide became M-Net's first 52-episode English-language family drama, now streaming internationally on Acorn TV, AMC platforms, and Amazon Prime channels. The company combines strong creative leadership with disciplined budgeting and the producing expertise of Tascha van der Westhuizen.
